Dec 26

Just after sunrise as we approached Manaus we moved from the Solimoes River into the Rio Negro.  The Solimoes is the Amazon here and it is the muddy neutral Ph and the Rio Negro is very acidic and is clear and almost black (hence the name.)  The two waters don't mix for about 5 miles, it is called "The Meeting of the Waters" and it's a much clearer definition than toe meeting we saw at Santarem.
