Nov 19, 20 & 21
We had 3 full days at sea on our way from Porto Grande to Recife, Brazil. There are a lot of activities and special events every day. Special pool deck lunches included Tex-Mex and Pan American and a group of us had s special Tajin lunch prepared. Tajin is a Moroccan meal of spicy chicken, potato & chick pea in a gravy. A Moroccan chef in the galley prepared it for us and said it was his mother's recipe. There have been themed afternoon tea times which included chocoholic, cheesecake and crepe. On the 21st there was a special party for those of us who are at gold, platinum and titanium levels with Regent. Before lunch on the 21st Captain Neptune boarded the ship to welcome us to his realm as we crossed the Equator. He was accompanied by his Queen, 3 mermaids, a nurse and a doctor and was introduced by a pirate. Those who are crossing the Equator for the first time on a ship are known as Pollywogs and a few are selected to be abused and sent into the pool to cleanse them. They all must kiss a fish to complete the ceremony after which they join the ranks of Shellbacks. We have seen this ceremony many times and each one is different.
