Oct 22
The temperature has dropped a bit but it was still a beautiful day.  We drove 42km to Lindau on the eastern end of Bodensee, a large lake surrounded by Germany, Austria & Switzerland.  The drive took more than an hour because there was quite a stretch of narrow winding road in the mountain area.  Bodensee is usually covered by low laying clouds or fog and today was no exception.  We could see the cloud covering from above the lake as we went up into the mountains.  As we descended, we entered the cloud area and the temperature dropped significantly.  We parked on the mainland and walked across the bridge to the island Old Town.  The streets are all cobblestone and buildings from 1300s to 1800s were all around.  Unfortunately, most restaurants and many shops on this island close on Monday, but we enjoyed walking around anyway.  Along the harbor were information posters about the town and harbor history, but it was all in German.  We spent 2 1/2 hours there and returned to sunshine, stopped in Oberstaufen where we wandered around and stopped at a cafe for a beer before returning to our hotel.  We plan to return to Oberstaufen for dinner later this evening.
