Oct 16 thru 18
We left Orlando Sanford Airport on Icelandair at 7:00pm and arrived in Reykjavik 7 hours later at 6:00am local.  After some excellent Iceland food for breakfast in the Saga Lounge we flew on to Frankfurt, Germany, arriving at 1:00pm.  After renting a car and setting up our GPS, we drove for about 90 minutes we arrived at our hotel, the Top Amberger in Würzburg.  We walked into the Old Town area and explored around the Market Square and the Old Main (as in Main River) Bridge.  At the town end of the bridge is Alte Mainmühle (Old Main Mill) restaurant & wine bar.  There is a window opening on the bridge side where people can order wine or beer with a €5.00 deposit for each glass.  You then wander around the bridge enjoying the views and people watching.  It was quite a popular window.  We went back to the hotel to rest a bit and later went out for dinner.  A lot of restaurants were closed and we were told that Germans eat early.

The next day we walked around the historical areas of Würzburg.  On March 16, 1945 90% of the city was destroyed by allied bombing which lasted about 20 minutes.  Only about 5000 of the 108,000 residents survived.  Many of the buildings were restored to original style and the city looks old.  Many famous persons have lived there over the centuries including Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen who discovered the X-Ray.  We stopped in late afternoon again at Alte Mainmühle for a couple of glasses of wine and then had dinner inside.

The weather had been very pleasant with clear skies and shirtsleeve temperature during the day and only a light jacked needed at night.  It was a very pleasant city and was an ideal place to be at leisure looking around while getting used to the 7 hour time difference from Florida.
